Established in 1897, The Brethren Mutual Insurance Company is owned by its policyholders, rather than stockholders. We are a true "mutually owned" company. Brethren Mutual is a property/casualty insurance carrier with a stable foundation. Although we currently have no affiliation with the Church of the Brethren, our founding fathers were Brethren churchmen who agreed to band together to insure one another's homes and farms against the perils of fire and lightning.
Brethren Mutual is extremely proud of its heritage, as well as, its niche in the insurance marketplace. We have grown from a small insurance organization that protected local farm dwellings, crops and personal belongings, to a regional company currently servicing the personal, business and farm insurance needs of over 86,000 policyholders in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
